Convent presents Center (Plural), a solo project of artist Vedran Kopljar (°1991). Central to the exhibition is the operation of the Plank Communication Center, an artistic center founded by Kopljar more than a year ago. Through this center he investigates the communication possibilities with the typical “plank works” of the well-known American artist John McCracken (1934-2011).
 
Vedran Kopljar, born in Slavonski Brod, Croatia, lives and works in Antwerp, where he obtained a master’s degree in painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 2015. Last year Kopljar was artist in resident at the Residency Unlimited-program in New York, where he met several planks of McCracken in both museum and private collections. Currently his work is also on view at the Roger Raveelmuseum in Machelen-Zulte, on the occasion of the 7th Biennial of Painting.
 
You can visit the exhibition Center (Plural) every Sunday from 13/9 until 13/12/2020 from 2 to 6 pm, or by appointment*. To prevent the spread of Covid-19, there will be no vernissage this time. The exhibition will be exceptionally open on Friday September 11 between 6 and 9 pm. Wearing a mouth mask is mandatory.

Convent presenteert Center (Plural), een soloproject van kunstenaar Vedran Kopljar (°1991). Centraal in de tentoonstelling staat de werking van het Plank Communication Center, een artistiek centrum dat ruim een jaar geleden werd opgericht door Kopljar. Via dit centrum onderzoekt hij de communicatiemogelijkheden met de typerende “plankwerken” van de bekende Amerikaanse kunstenaar John McCracken (1934-2011).
 
Vedran Kopljar, geboren in Slavonski Brod, Kroatië, woont en werkt in Antwerpen, waar hij in 2015 afstudeerde als master in de schilderkunst aan de Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten. Vorig jaar was Kopljar artist in resident aan het Residency Unlimited-programma in New York, waar hij een aantal plankwerken van McCracken heeft “ontmoet” in zowel museale als private collecties. Momenteel is er ook werk van hem te zien in het Roger Raveelmuseum te Machelen-Zulte, naar aanleiding van de Biënnale van de Schilderkunst.
 
De tentoonstelling Center (Plural) is elke zondag vrij te bezoeken vanaf 13/9 tot en met 13/12/2020 tussen 14 en 18u, of op afspraak*. Om de verspreiding van COVID-19 tegen te gaan, zal er deze keer geen vernissage plaatsvinden. De tentoonstelling zal wel uitzonderlijk te bezoeken zijn op vrijdag 11 september tussen 18-21u. Het dragen van een mondmasker is verplicht.
