Convent is very pleased to present Discounts, a new series of works by artist Egon Van Herreweghe (°1985, Ghent).

Discounts are by definition performative, stylized with the aim of influencing our behavior. The phenomenon has its own iconography and we, consumers, are conditioned in such a way that we recognize it immediately. By isolating the percentages from their natural habitat and moving them to the exhibition space, 'Discounts' highlights the mechanisms behind them.

Kortingen zijn per definitie performatief. Ze zijn vormgegeven met als doel ons gedrag te beïnvloeden. Het fenomeen heeft zijn eigen iconografie en wij, consumenten, zijn zo geconditioneerd dat we het onmiddellijk herkennen. Door de percentages uit hun natuurlijke omgeving te isoleren en ze naar de tentoonstellingsruimte te verplaatsen, belicht 'Discounts' de mechanismen erachter.
